Based on a real walk in New York and a
virtual "walk" of Caniff Avenue, in Detroit,
Virtual/Reality is the study of the
diverse populations that have settled in both
of these areas. The “Reality” section focuses
on the diverse populations that use the street
at 10 am, 2 pm, and 6 pm.
The "Virtual" section explores Caniff
Avenue. In the last 10 years, Caniff Avenue’s
population has become increasingly Middle
Eastern/South Asian. Because of this shift,
there has been a lot of pushback towards the
Muslim community in this area. This area of
Detroit has become very detached from each
other as opposed to coming together as a community.
The "Virtual" chapter was created by collecting
the negative comments posted online. The section
is meant to showcase the harmful fear mongering
that has been happening recently, while also
questioning the mask of online anonymity.
